On the campaign trail, we often hear from voters that they think they aren't supposed to vote for school board races because they don't currently have children in district schools.
Here are some top reasons why school board races matter to ALL voters.
1. Whether you own a home or rent in Paradise Valley USD, over half of the property taxes assessed to your home fund education.
2. School Boards set district policy and approve curriculum. It is crucial that we have a well educated workforce and citizenry. Whoever controls the curriculum, controls the future.
3. School Boards make the decision to open or close schools, and buy, rent or sell district properties. Paradise Valley USD has now closed 5 schools since 2019 and is sitting on unused and underutilized district properties that could be sold. Selling these properties would bring in revenue to the district. Selling these properties to a charter school, private school or religious organization could benefit the community rather than keeping a vacant property.
4. School Boards make the final decision on whether to send bond and override ballot questions to district voters and they also determine the amount for those ballot initiatives.
These are very important decisions that should be made by leaders that represent the voters and taxpayers of the district. Please research your school board candidates and VOTE.
Our team will represent the voters and taxpayers of Paradise Valley USD.
